Submerged Arc Linear Seam Automatic Welding Machine
Submerged arc welding (SAW) straight seam welding machines are highly efficient and automated welding equipment specifically designed for welding long, straight seams. They are primarily used in the manufacture of medium-thick plate structural components such as cylinders, pipes, and pressure vessels that require welding long, straight longitudinal seams.
Description
Submerged arc linear seam automatic welding machine

I. Working process
- Preparation: Place the workpiece to be welded on the trolley, move the trolley to the welding station, and adjust the welding machine head to align the welding wire with the weld initiation point.
- Start-up: Set all parameters on the control panel. Press the start button.
- Automatic Flux Spreading: The flux funnel automatically spreads a layer of flux in front of the arc.
- Arc Ignition and Welding: The welding wire is fed downwards until it contacts the workpiece, igniting the arc. Simultaneously, the traveling mechanism begins to move. The arc burns stably under the thick flux layer, melting the welding wire, base metal, and part of the flux to form a molten pool and slag.
- Synchronous Recovery: The flux recovery system nozzle immediately sucks up any unmelted flux, purifies it, and stores it in the recovery bin.
- Process Completion: Upon reaching the weld initiation point, welding stops, wire feeding and traveling cease, and the recovery system shuts off after a delay to ensure complete flux recovery.
- Cleaning and inspection: After welding is completed, the weld surface will be covered with a layer of slag (solidified flux after melting). You can knock it off with a small hammer to reveal a smooth and beautiful weld.
II.Main features
- High efficiency: High current welding is possible, resulting in deep weld penetration and fast welding speed; thick plates can be welded in a single pass.
- High quality: The flux and slag shell effectively prevent the intrusion of nitrogen and hydrogen from the air, resulting in pure weld metal with good mechanical properties and a beautiful, smooth appearance.
- High degree of automation: From wire feeding, movement, flux application to recovery, the entire process is automated, reducing reliance on welder skills and minimizing labor intensity.
- Friendly working environment: The arc burns under the flux, eliminating arc radiation and minimizing fume emissions, thus improving working conditions.
III.Machine structure
1.Main unit head
- Welding torch: Conducts welding current and feeds welding wire.
- Wire feeding mechanism: Consists of a motor, gearbox, and wire feeding rollers, stably feeding the welding wire from the wire spool.
- Traveling mechanism: Moves the entire welding head at a uniform speed along the weld direction. This can be the welding head moving on the workpiece or the workpiece moving under the welding head (e.g., a roller frame).

2.Flux funnel (flux delivery system)
- Function: Before and during welding, it continuously and evenly spreads a sufficient amount of flux in front of the weld area, completely covering the arc area.
- Composition: Typically a large-capacity hopper, controlled by a solenoid valve or screw conveyor for precise and automatic spreading.
- Advantages: It replaces traditional manual spreading, ensuring uniform and consistent flux coverage, thus providing a prerequisite for obtaining consistently high-quality welds.

3.Flux Recovery System
- Function: This is the key component of the system. Immediately after welding, it sucks up unmelted, still granular flux from the weld surface, filters it, and returns it to the recovery flux tank for reuse.
- Components:
- Nozzle: Following the welding torch, it collects the flux.
- Recovery Pipeline: Connects the nozzle to the recovery unit.
- Recovery Unit: Contains a built-in vacuum pump and cyclone separator/filter to separate the flux from the air.
- Recovery Flux Tank: Stores the recovered, clean flux.

4.Electrical control system
Integrated PLC and touch screen, used for precise setting and adjustment of welding parameters (voltage, current, speed), and control of linkage of actions such as flux feeding, recovery, and movement.

5.Other details images
- We are using copper clamping bar and copper back bar in your machine. They can be for steel, stainless steel and Al. Copper bar is used to conduct both heat and electricity. Firmly clamp work-piece. It is also used to protect steel surface. Surface of the cylinder/tank will not have scratch and mechanical damage.

- Easy assembly and fixation. Tank is centrally positioned and clamped by square core axis and pneumatic pressure plate. Cylinder/tank is centrally positioned by pneumatic pin.Equipped with pneumatic cylinders to fix product. Cylinders are used to control copper clamping bar.

- This submerged arc welding machine is equipped with a dedicated transport trolley for smooth and precise movement of the workpiece to be welded. The trolley's support platform is evenly distributed with omnidirectional ball bearings, which form a low-friction rolling support surface. Once the workpiece is placed on it, it can be easily fine-tuned or rotated, allowing for effortless and flexible alignment with the welding position.
