I.Working Principle
Submerged arc welding (SAW) is a welding method in which an arc burns beneath a layer of flux. During welding, the arc burns between the welding wire and the workpiece, melting the wire, base metal, and the overlying flux. The molten flux forms a slag and a gas film, effectively isolating the weld metal from the atmosphere, protecting the arc and weld pool, and simultaneously metallurgically treating the weld metal.

Recovery system and welding torch：
The flux recovery system automatically removes unmelted flux from the welding area, filters it, and recycles it into a storage bin, enabling flux recycling and saving costs while maintaining a clean working environment. The welding gun's function is to precisely deliver the welding current and wire to the weld area and evenly distribute the flux around the arc, creating a high-quality, aesthetically pleasing weld joint through the submerged arc process.
Rotary chuck:
The chuck of a submerged arc double girth welder is the core component for workpiece clamping and positioning. It typically utilizes hydraulic or pneumatic actuation and features automatic centering and clamping. Its robust design ensures a secure grip on the cylindrical workpiece during welding and allows for smooth, precise rotation, thereby collaborating with the welding head to achieve high-quality, double-sided girth welds.
Main frame and travel mechanism：
A sturdy gantry or cantilever frame is used to support all welding components. It is equipped with a travel mechanism on which the welding gun can be adjusted left and right according to the length of the workpiece.
The supporter:
Its main function is to firmly support the cylindrical workpiece to be welded. It supports the outer wall of the workpiece through adjustable rollers, ensuring that the workpiece can rotate smoothly and evenly during the welding process, thereby maintaining an accurate relative position with the welding gun. At the same time, the push-pull support frame facilitates the loading and unloading of the workpiece.
Servo motor and cylinder system：
The pneumatic cylinder primarily provides a powerful radial tightening force, firmly pushing the workpiece to be welded toward the drive end. This ensures precise butt-jointing of the two workpieces and sufficient preload, laying the foundation for a high-quality weld. The servo motor, on the other hand, drives the precise rotation of the tailstock platen. It maintains strict synchronization with the motor on the drive end, ensuring uniform and smooth rotation of the workpiece during welding.
