What's the Narrow Gap Welding?

 

Narrow gap welding is an automated and efficient welding process specifically designed for **thick-walled workpieces**.

Traditional thick plate welding requires a large V-groove, resulting in a wide groove, a large amount of filler wire, numerous weld beads, and a long welding time.

Narrow gap welding creates a nearly parallel, narrow weld gap with a very small groove angle (as small as 3°). Even with thick plates, the weld gap remains very narrow.

The equipment is equipped with a dedicated narrow gap welding torch, an arc oscillation mechanism, and a weld tracking system. The welding torch penetrates deep into the narrow groove to complete multi-layer welding, ensuring full fusion of the base material on both sides of the groove and avoiding incomplete fusion defects.

Narrow Gap Welding Torch

This is the core component of the narrow gap welding equipment, which is different from ordinary welding guns: the gun body is slender and flat, and can extend into the interior of the bevel with a large depth and a very narrow gap. Many of them also have an arc oscillation mechanism, which is used to ensure that the base material on the left and right sides of the bevel is fully fused and avoid incomplete fusion defects.
