Auto MIG Aluminum Fuel Tank Welding Machine
The core objective of this equipment is to solve the challenges of welding aluminum alloy fuel tanks: deformation control, high airtightness requirements, and ensuring that the appearance and internal quality of the weld are consistent.
Description
Auto MIG Aluminum Fuel Tank Welding Machine

I.Overview
Aluminum storage tank welding machine
This equipment is used for the welding of the barrel body and the end cover of the carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum and other metal cylindrical bodies ( and square , D-shaped oval, etc.) workpieces. The welding is controlled by a three-axis numerical control system. The mold is processed by the machining center to avoid scratches on the outer surface when clamping the workpiece . The adjustment part of the welding torch adopts a stepper motor and a ball screw, which can be manually fine-tuned during welding. Reduce the work intensity of the operator and ensure the welding quality. It is mainly composed of the bed, the spindle chassis, the jacking chassis , the pneumatic bracket, the welding torch adjustment mechanism, the positioning fixture, the pneumatic system, the welding power supply, and the electrical control system. Various workpieces can directly set parameters on the operation interface, and only need to directly call out the program during production. The quality of the whole machine is reliable, the appearance is beautiful, and the degree of automation is high. Automatic welding of TIG and MIG welding forms can be realized. (An additional wire feeder is required for TIG welding ).

III.Main components
Custom aluminum fuel tanks welding machine
1.Positioner System (Core)
- Headstock and Tailstock: The headstock is typically an active drive unit with a built-in servo motor and a precision reducer for stepless speed regulation. The tailstock is a driven clamping mechanism, pneumatically driven, and can slide along guide rails to accommodate oil tanks of different lengths.
- Chuck/Special Fixture: Mounted on the headstock and tailstock, it is used for precise clamping and rotation of the workpiece. For aluminum oil tank shapes (cylindrical, elliptical, square with rounded corners), an air-filled expansion mandrel or a special contour chuck is usually designed to provide internal clamping, ensuring secure clamping without damaging the tank's inner wall and effectively controlling welding deformation.

2.Welding system
- Wire Feeding Mechanism: Equipped with a dual-drive wire feeder to ensure smooth and uniform feeding of the aluminum welding wire, preventing the flexible aluminum wire from bending or becoming obstructed.
- Welding Torch: Utilizes a water-cooled, high-current MIG welding torch to handle the continuous high current required for aluminum welding.
- Tracking Sensor: Its main function is to monitor the precise position and direction of the weld seam in real time through a proximity-sensing contact detection method. During welding, it automatically identifies deviations caused by workpiece assembly or thermal deformation and immediately feeds the position data back to the control system. The system then dynamically adjusts the height of the welding torch accordingly, ensuring that the welding wire always accurately tracks the welding height.

3.Electrical Control System
- Core: Employs a PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) as the control center.
- Human Machine Interface (HMI): Equipped with a touchscreen for setting, storing, and recalling welding parameters (such as welding current, voltage, welding speed, rotation speed, arc start-up and end-of-arc parameters, etc.).
- Functions: Coordinates and controls the positioner rotation, welding torch movement, and welding power supply start-up and shutdown to achieve (linked) operation. Features fault diagnosis and alarm display functions.

4.Traveling Mechanism (Gantry or Cross Table)
The welding torch needs to move along the Gantry or Cross Table. This system is usually driven by a servo motor, which, through the cooperation of gears and synchronous pulleys, drives the welding torch to move in a uniform linear motion, with the speed synchronized with the rotation of the positioner.
