Automatic Tank Girth Welding Machine for Stainless Steel
Automatic tank girth welding machine for stainless steel tanks and cylindrical shells. Customized for your diameter, joint design and welding requirements.
Description
Why choose Tank Girth Welding Machine
The automatic tank girth welding machine is developed for circumferential joints on stainless steel tank bodies and cylindrical shells. It provides an automated solution for rotating the workpiece and completing the girth seam under controlled welding conditions.
This machine is suitable for manufacturers looking to replace repetitive manual girth welding with a more consistent production process. The equipment can be configured according to the tank diameter, length, material thickness, joint design and production requirements.
For non-standard tanks or cylindrical components, the machine configuration can be determined from the customer's workpiece drawing or sample.

How the Tank Girth Welding Process Works ?
Step 1 - Position the Workpiece
The tank body or cylindrical shell is loaded and positioned according to the required girth seam location.
Step 2 - Align the Welding Position
The welding torch is adjusted to the joint before the automatic welding cycle begins.
Step 3 - Set the Welding Conditions
Rotation and welding parameters are set according to the workpiece material, thickness and joint requirements.
Step 4 - Start Automatic Girth Welding
The cylindrical workpiece rotates through the welding position while the welding system completes the circumferential joint.
Step 5 - Complete the Welding Cycle
After the full girth seam has been completed, the welding cycle stops and the workpiece can be removed for inspection or subsequent production.
Why Use Automatic Girth Welding Instead of Manual Welding?
For a short straight weld, an experienced welder can move the torch directly along the joint. A tank girth seam presents a different production challenge because the welding path continues around the entire circumference.
An automatic girth welding system allows the workpiece rotation and welding operation to work together.
This is especially useful when manufacturers need to:
-
Reduce Dependence on Manual Torch Movement
The operator does not need to continuously move around the tank to complete the circumferential joint.
-
Maintain a More Repeatable Travel Speed
Controlled workpiece rotation provides a more consistent relative movement between the welding torch and the seam.
-
Improve Repeatability Between Workpieces
Once a suitable production setup has been established, the same operating method can be applied to subsequent workpieces of the same specification.
-
Simplify Batch Tank Welding
For repeated production, automatic operation reduces the amount of manual intervention required during each girth welding cycle.
What Determines the Right Girth Welding Machine?
Every tank welding application is different. Haoyu therefore determines the machine configuration from the workpiece and weld requirements rather than supplying one fixed configuration for every customer.
Before recommending an automatic tank girth welding machine, we normally evaluate the following information:
| Workpiece Information | Why We Need It |
|---|---|
| Tank diameter range | Determines suitable workpiece holding and supporting arrangement |
| Tank length | Helps determine machine dimensions and workpiece support |
| Material | Used to evaluate the appropriate welding configuration |
| Wall thickness | Affects welding process and parameter requirements |
| Girth seam position | Determines torch and workpiece positioning |
| Joint design | Helps evaluate the required welding arrangement |
| Production quantity | Helps determine the required automation level |
| Welding requirements | Used to configure the machine for the required production result |
Send us your tank drawing or workpiece dimensions.
Our engineers can evaluate the workpiece first and recommend a suitable welding configuration.
Key Benefits for Tank Production
-
Consistent Workpiece Travel
Controlled rotation provides stable relative movement between the workpiece and welding position during the circumferential welding cycle.
-
Reduced Manual Welding Around the Tank
The operator does not need to manually move the welding torch around the complete circumference of the workpiece.
-
Repeatable Production Setup
Once suitable welding conditions are established for a specific workpiece, the setup can be reused for subsequent parts of the same specification.
-
Suitable for Batch Manufacturing
Automatic welding is particularly useful when similar tank bodies or cylindrical components require repeated girth seam welding.
-
Flexible Machine Configuration
The equipment can be adapted to a defined range of workpiece sizes instead of being restricted to one fixed tank dimension.
